The Way of Life
Guardians
The way of life in Arehlay is simple but immensely complicated. The greater breed of animal is assigned to their guardian judging on a quality they lack at birth: Whether it be strength or intelligence, as bears tend to be born with uh... less thinks in their brain, you could say... they are paired with an animal that has been raised by an animal of the strength category, such as an owl as a guardian to a bear, because it was born with an intelligence advantage- this way, each animal is exposed to all sorts of mental and physical abilities.
(Non-, but mainly breed-specific) Social Hierarchy
LEADERS - tend to be the leading breed, as they are close to the top of the food chains- they are most often born with both intelligence and strength, but have a main advantage on one or the other. It is shown that the animals of Arehlay prefer wolves with intelligence as a main advantage rather than strength, although strength is very vital in a leader. Leaders need to be proven to be worthy of leading Arehlay through their time by displaying their bravery, strength, intelligence, selflessness, etc. Wolves can be both lone and 'groupies' (idk i guess xD) and may stray to form their own kingdoms or packs elsewhere beyond Arehlay.
SOLDIERS - Bears are usually the soldiers of Arehlay, they are born and trained to stay sharp and use their size to their advantage. Although of course, there are other animals such as coyotes that are seen as good soldiers. They are large and powerful, and are usually second-in-commands to wolves but do not challenge them because of wolves' intelligence and confidence in their dominant leadership. They tend to stay at the borders of Arehlay and naturally are protecters of all those who are not as powerful as them. They may also lose control and get angry, which, as we know as humans is really, really bad. They can attack those they are protecting out of simple frustration but will often regret it later, and many of these bears recently are moving to Waundra.
SCRIBES - Owls tend to be the wisest in the forest, and are therefore dubbed the scribes of Arehlay- of course, however, all other breeds are able to become scribes by openly displaying their intelligence. They are honed as younglings to be able to fight and have bravery, but their main advantage in life is intelligence. They practice keeping Arehlay in shape and making sure they keep up to old traditions but use new technology to their (morally) good advantage. They record history and new technology, almost everything is Arehlay on scrolls and keep them safe in their homes, only displaying them to leaders of Arehlay. They help teach religion to younglings of every breed.
CARETAKERS- These animals, often females of every breed (except those who dislike their younglings, of course) are the caretakers of Arehlay, who make sure that the younglings are safe and sound. They protect younglings of all kinds with the fierceness as if they were their own younglings, they cannot refuse to help younglings in need, even if they are an ugly one!
More will be added when they are thought of. Don't hesitate to PM an administrator if you have a suggestion!
